For Successful System Implementation
Project Management techniques
  • Standard Project Management techniques are important in the development and the implementation of a new system;
    • The identification of a Project Management Team and other resources
    • Project Plan
    • Project Monitoring
Project Management Team
  • The team structure needed for a system implementation project will vary significantly based upon the size and scope of the new system. Typical resources and structure for a project will include the following:
    • A Project Steering Committee that has both decision-making authority and the resources, budget, executive support, etc. to complete the project.
    • A Project Manager: Every project requires a senior-level leader. The Project Manager is to assemble a cross-functional Project Management Team, to organize the day-to-day development of the system and to provide the Steering Committee with the necessary information needed to make strategic decisions.
    • Project Staff who will take direction from the Project Manager and execute the required day-to-day tasks.
    • Business Unit Representatives (from each unit involved in the new system) to participate as essential members of the Project Management Team and to gather critical business information to reflect them to the new system.
  • It is vital to have competent team members for the successful implementation.
Project Plan and Monitoring

A project requires a detailed Project Plan identifying tasks, start and end dates, and ownership.

Status Reports detailing progress, next steps, and issues must be prepared and reported to the Steering Committee in regular time intervals.
